Fix This Foto … that’s the subject of our next meeting on September 11. Bring along a few images (both the original and your processed version) and try suggestions from fellow members for alternative ways of producing a final image – perhaps a different crop, converting to monochrome, different colour balance, some judicious cloning … etc. etc. etc. You might like some of the suggestions, some you won’t, but it will give you an insight into what else is possible when you start work on that next image.

Underwater Marvels Revealed

Aug 17, 2014   //   by Jack   //   Member News  //  No Comments

On Thursday 14th August member Chris Jansen took fellow members on a photographic journey below the sea. When not working as a mathematics and IT  teacher at a local secondary school, Chris spends a lot of his time underwater with his scuba gear and camera. Chris firstly went through the intricacies of preparing for a dive, showing us the various requirements for ensuring a safe one. He also showed us his camera/lens/housing/lighting setup and explained how he went about getting “the shot”.

Members were then treated to a display of some of Chris’s photography, much of it made locally in Port Phillip Bay. Other locations included Fiji, South Australia and the Philippines.

White Tip Reef Shark - I love sharks! They are over 400 million years old and have been around before the dinosaur. They suffer a bad reputation and humans have nothing to fear from the vast majority of them. This White Tip Reef Shark was snapped on a night dive on the northern part of the barrier reef.

While Chris does a lot of underwater photography, he is also an accomplished “dry land” worker. You can read more about him and see some of his work here
