Free Music Archive
In light of the audio visual night we had on the 10th of Feb, I thought that I might share with you all an excellent resource for free and royalty free music to add to your excellent slide shows. The site is called Free Music Archive, where all tracks are free to download and a lot of tracks are licensed under the “creative commons” license which some of you may be familiar with from Flickr. The site is broken up into sections based on the types of music and easily browsed. Be sure to check the License of each track you use as some will not allow adaptations.
Using royalty free music will enable you to be able to share your slide show around the web and world. Great places to share your work would be -
- just to name a few and all are very easy to use. If you upload something and want to share it with the rest of the group feel free to email me via the contact page and i’ll put it up on the site.

Digital Life Expo
The Photo Marketing Association International has joined forces with the Photo Imaging Council of Australia to promote a new show concept for the Asia-Pacific photo imaging industry. The first PMA Australia show was held in Melbourne in 2007, Brisbane 2008 and Sydney in 2009.
The annual Australian PMA imaging show will be given a new name and treatment for the 2010 event due to be held Friday 4th to Sunday 6th June at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. Now in its twenty-ninth year, the Australasian Show will be promoted under the name of Digital Life Expo rather than the customary Photo Imaging Technology tag.
You will need to register to attend – it’s free. Go to the website below for more information.
How to sharpen in Photoshop
Like most things in Photoshop there are a number of techniques for sharpening an image. But when to use them and how? The two methods I use are listed below with some very nice and concise tutorials to go with them. The first one is the good old unsharpen mask filter. The tutorial has some good tips on how to apply this so its worth a read even if you have used this technique lots. The second tutorial is the high pass filter something I use for landscape shots and images with a lot of detail and something worth trying out yourself if you have not already. Read more >>
Links Section Grow
The web is an amazing and growing resource for information, how to’s and tutorials on almost any subject, including all things photography. Sometimes it simply provides inspiration from other photographers’ work from sites such as Flickr and Redbubble.
We would love to grow our website into a fantastic resource directory. The best places on the net for tutorials, how to’s, fantastic work, etc. Making the links section of the site a real asset.
To do this we need you to send in the articles and links that you discover on the net. You can do this via the Contact Us page. You could even write up a quick blurb about the link and this could be posted on the site News section, letting people know there is a great new resource that you have found.
I have added a really good one on HDR to get us started
Digital Monochrome by Peter Marin
Peter Marin gave us a very informative presentation on digital balck and white last night. He sent us the following note:
Hi Guys,
Thanks for having me in to speak, I was really happy with everyone’s attitude and interest on the night.
I thought I’d take the opportunity to share a link you may want to put up on your club site for others to have access to.
Here it is, tutorials.htm
I think the members will find it a useful resource.
