This year’s Hanging Rock races on Australia Day (Jan 26) have been relocated to Kyneton due to damage to the track. The general consensus of members was that we should instead have an informal BBQ at Osborne House starting at around 6.00 pm. BYO food and drinks. We will have a BBQ on site. Bring along any images/projects that you have been working on to share with members. As it’s Australia Day, there will be fireworks from the Waterfront later in the evening, so bring along your gear to capture the event. Prints for the September Competitions are also due on this night. Projected images can be uploaded any time via the Competitions page.

Web Site Update

In case you did not notice we have done a bit of an update to the web page. I think it makes it

easier to navigate
looks a bit fresher
encourages new members to contact us and join.

There might be a few bugs, there always is with this sort of thing. Let me know if you see something you think we should change.

At the moment the images on the front page are there just for display. We will sort out some system of changing them monthly to feature work from members. This could be monthly winners, new members work, feature one member a month or any ideas you have. If you have an idea of what you want on this page please let us know by filling in the email box below. If you have any ideas for the site also let us know.

Christmas Breakup – 04/12/11

Overcast, but without rain, members met at the Bert Boardman reserve in Steiglitz for this year’s Christmas get-together. In the end about twenty members and families had an enjoyable day. A few pics from the day below.

2011 Three Way Long Distance Interclub

The 2011 Three-Way Long Distance Interclub was a successful event for CBCC winning the competition with an aggregate of 813pts. followed by Kaiapoi Photographic Club N.Z. on 767pts. and Gem Camera Club from Perth W.A. with 735pts.

Geelong Interclub Results

The annual CBCC/Geelong Interclub was held at the Geelong CC rooms on Wednesday 19th October, with Geelong winning both the Print and Projected Image sections. Geelong have now held the perpetual trophy, given for the combined aggregate across both sections, continuously since 2004.

The final scores were:

Print: Geelong 250; CBCC 234
PI: Geelong 256; CBCC 240
Total: Geelong 506; CBCC 474

Certificates were awarded to Barry Feldman and Sophie Lapsley for best CBCC image in each section:

Colac Wins Inaugural 3 Way Competition

After many years of inter-club competition between Colac CC and Corio Bay CC, we welcomed the fledgling Bellarine Camera Club to this year’s event to make it a three way affair. Congratulations to Colac who scooped the pool, winning all four sections as well taking out best image in each section.

1. Invitation to AC-FOTO German mega circuit – a 6 salon circuit with 5 sections ( = 30 individual juries). Entry form or web direct upload. All sections for digital/slide entries.

2. Announcement of a new book by Matthew Bamberg; New Image Frontiers – Defining the Future of Photography.

3. Call for entries: Aesthetica Creative Works Competition. Deadline for submissions is the 31st August 2011. Guidelines on how to submit can be found online in the submission guide.

4. Carol Hall from Ballarat Camera Club has a display of photographs taken on last year’s Arctic voyage to Spitsbergen & Greenland. At Radmac, 104 Armstrong St North, Ballarat for the month of July. Open during business hours Mon‐Fri 8.30am‐5.30pm and Sat 9am‐12 noon.

Peter Marin recently judged the 2011 Corio Bay Camera Club Image of the Year competition. Peter is a local photographer based in Geelong Victoria and specialises in wedding and portrait photography. Examples of Peter’s work can be seen at Peter Marin Photography

“Geelong – Then and Now” Exhibition

As part of the National Trust Heritage Festival 2011, Corio Bay Camera Club is currently holding an exhibition called “Geelong – Then and Now”. The exhibition features old photographs of the Geelong and Bellarine Peninsula region, rephotographed as they are today, allowing viewers to compare what has changed, and what remains the same. To date the exhibition has generated a very positive response. The exhibition continues until April 20 and is located at its clubrooms at Osborne House, Swinburne Street North Geelong. In addition to the CBCC exhibition, there is also a comprehensive exhibition of Antarctic memorabilia, including the art of Neil Roberts, model steam engines built by the Geelong Society of Model and Experimental Engineers, and memorabilia from the National Servicemen’s Association.

Free Music Archive

In light of the audio visual night we had on the 10th of Feb, I thought that I might share with you all an excellent resource for free and royalty free music to add to your excellent slide shows. The site is called Free Music Archive, where all tracks are free to download and a lot of tracks are licensed under the “creative commons” license which some of you may be familiar with from Flickr. The site is broken up into sections based on the types of music and easily browsed. Be sure to check the License of each track you use as some will not allow adaptations.

Using royalty free music will enable you to be able to share your slide show around the web and world. Great places to share your work would be -
